People Taking Pictures is a boundary-pushing project from Boorloo/Perth, blending psychedelic rock, hip hop, drum & bass, jazz fusion and electronic music into an immersive and unpredictable live experience. Founded in 2019 by multi-instrumentalist and producer Luke Parish — best known as guitarist for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets — the project has evolved into a collaborative force within WA’s underground music scene. Fronted by acclaimed MC POW! Negro (also known for Superego and Myriad Sun), People Taking Pictures combines sharp lyricism, heavy grooves, swirling guitars and expansive production with moments of smooth vocal harmony and melodic restraint. Across multiple releases, the project has collaborated with celebrated local artists including Mali Jo$e and Cruz Patterson of Koi Child, continuing to push its shape-shifting sound into new territory. Their latest releases — including the explosive single “Let This Be” and upcoming EP SOOP — dive into themes of digital overload, identity, politics and modern anxiety, balancing chaos and catharsis through distorted rave textures, hypnotic psychedelia and hard-hitting hip hop. Known for immersive live sets and high-energy performances, People Taking Pictures continue to build momentum following recent support slots with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Morcheeba.
